A well-woman exam is a routine check-up that focuses on maintaining and monitoring a woman’s overall health. This comprehensive visit typically includes a discussion about personal and family health history, lifestyle factors, and preventive care needs. As part of the exam, your healthcare provider may perform a pelvic exam to assess the health of your reproductive organs, including the uterus, ovaries, and cervix. If appropriate, a Pap smear (or Pap test) may also be performed to screen for cervical cancer and other abnormalities. Depending on your age, health history, and risk factors, additional screenings, such as breast exams or tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), may also be part of the exam. The well-woman exam provides an opportunity to address any health concerns related to women's health, ask questions, and receive guidance on maintaining optimal health throughout different stages of life.
